The Department of Fuel and Energy Technologies organized an awareness workshop entitled “Extremism and Violence Leading to Terrorism”, as part of its ongoing efforts to promote intellectual awareness and reinforce the principles of moderation and rejection of violence within the academic environment. This activity aligns with the globally adopted Sustainable Development Goals. SDG 4 Quality Education by promoting intellectual awareness and rejecting extremism, and SDG 16 Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions by fostering a culture of peace and combating violence and terrorism. The workshop was presented by Assistant Lecturer Zahraa Salah. The workshop aimed to shed light on the concept of intellectual extremism, its social and psychological causes, and its serious impact on individual and community security. It also addressed the relationship between extremism and violence and their role in fueling terrorism, emphasizing the importance of youth and educational institutions in preventing the spread of such dangerous ideologies. The workshop highlighted the need to promote a culture of dialogue, tolerance, and national belonging, contributing to the building of a safe and stable society in line with the university’s mission of community service and confronting contemporary intellectual challenges.
