Under the patronage of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, with direct supervision of the Dean of the College of Science, Assistant Professor Dr. Furat Hamza Al-Sultani, and follow-up and supervision of the Head of the Intelligent Medical Systems Department, the department held today a specialized scientific workshop as part of its academic activities aimed at enhancing students’ scientific knowledge. The workshop, entitled “Pathogenic Fungi and Their Impact on Plants,” was delivered by lecturer Najat Hamid Jassim. The presentation addressed the basic concepts of pathogenic fungi, their types, mechanisms of plant infection, and their negative effects on agricultural crops, as well as the resulting implications for food security and the environment. The workshop aimed to raise students’ scientific and cognitive levels by linking theoretical aspects with practical applications, highlighting the importance of early diagnosis of fungal diseases and methods to limit their spread. This contributes to building a solid scientific foundation for students in related biological and medical fields. This workshop aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education) by supporting quality education and scientific activities; Goal 2 (Zero Hunger) by enhancing awareness of plant diseases and their impact on agricultural production; Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) by shedding light on indirect health risks associated with plant diseases; and Goal 15 (Life on Land) by protecting plant ecosystems and promoting their sustainability.
