Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Hasan Shaker Majdi, President of the University of Al-Mustaqbal, and under the supervision of Ms. Mary Imran Mahdi, Head of the Women’s Affairs Division, with a presentation by Mr. Sarour Hafez Muhammad from the College of Agricultural Technologies, a seminar was held on Saturday, January 17, 2026, entitled: “Iraqi Women: Pillars of Development and Partners in Decision-Making.”
The seminar aimed to analyze the role of women in Iraqi society from the perspective of modern human development concepts, emphasizing the investment in human capital as a true measure of national wealth, rather than relying solely on traditional financial indicators.
The content covered several key areas, beginning with the economic impact of women’s empowerment, noting that bridging the gender gap directly contributes to increasing GDP and enhances institutional efficiency by improving risk management and innovation when women hold leadership positions. It also addressed the social dimension, highlighting the pivotal role of women within the family in directing financial resources toward education and health, thereby helping to break cycles of inherited poverty.
To illustrate leadership and entrepreneurship models, the seminar highlighted prominent Iraqi figures with global influence, such as architect Zaha Hadid and poet Nazik Al-Malaika, recognizing them as symbols of professional competence and transformative cultural and intellectual impact that transcends geographic and gender boundaries.
The seminar concluded with statistical indicators and facts reflecting the current status of Iraqi women, showing their academic excellence, constitutionally guaranteed 25% parliamentary representation, and their growing role in the digital economy and technology-driven independent work opportunities, underscoring their full capability as essential partners in state-building and societal development.
