The Department of biology organized a scientific workshop entitled “Global Warming and Its Impact on Plant Life”, supervised by Lecturer Assistant Duha Salah Sahib, as part of its scientific activities aimed at enhancing environmental awareness and highlighting contemporary climate challenges and their impacts on environmental and plant ecosystems. The workshop addressed the concept of global warming and its main causes, with a focus on the effects of rising temperatures and changing climate patterns on plant growth, geographical distribution, agricultural productivity, and biodiversity, in addition to the associated plant stress and ecological imbalance. It also discussed plant adaptation mechanisms to climate change and emphasized the importance of scientific research in developing sustainable solutions to reduce negative impacts. The workshop highlighted the role of life sciences in studying climate change and in proposing scientific strategies that contribute to protecting plant cover and enhancing food security through the sustainable management of natural resources and the adoption of environmentally friendly agricultural practices. This workshop was aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly: Goal 13: Climate Action, by raising awareness of climate change risks and ways to mitigate its effects. Goal 15: Life on Land, by emphasizing the protection of terrestrial ecosystems and the conservation of plant biodiversity. Goal 2: Zero Hunger, by linking sustainable plant production to food security. This activity reflects the Department of Life Sciences’ commitment to keeping pace with global environmental issues, strengthening the university’s role in disseminating scientific knowledge, and supporting efforts aimed at achieving sustainable development and serving the community.
