The Department of biology organized an awareness campaign under the slogan “Reduce Waste – Recycle: Today Builds a More Sustainable Tomorrow,” supervised by Lecturer Assistant Zainab Nazim Aziz, as part of the department’s efforts to spread environmental culture and raise community awareness about the importance of preserving natural resources and reducing the negative impacts of waste on the environment.
The campaign included the distribution of awareness brochures containing information on methods to reduce waste in daily life, recycling techniques, and the importance of waste separation at the source. It also provided practical tips for reducing the consumption of plastic materials and reusing recyclable materials. The campaign focused on clarifying the positive impact of these practices in protecting the environment, reducing pollution, and improving the quality of life.
In line with the Sustainable Development Goals:
Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, by encouraging waste reduction and adopting sustainable production and consumption practices.
Goal 13: Climate Action, by reducing emissions resulting from waste decomposition and unsafe burning practices.
Goal 15: Life on Land, by protecting land and natural resources from pollution and waste.
The campaign reflects the Department of biology’ commitment to activating the university’s role in serving the community, enhancing students’ active participation in environmental initiatives, and supporting the transition toward a more sustainable and environmentally friendly society.
