A Step Towards a Cleaner Environment… An Awareness Campaign to Preserve Trees

The Department of Biology organized an awareness campaign to preserve trees in the university corridors. The campaign included distributing informational brochures to students as part of efforts to promote environmental awareness and strengthen the culture of protecting green spaces within the university campus. The campaign was supervised by Assistant Lecturer Zainab Nazim Aziz and Assistant Lecturer Duha Salah Sahib. The campaign focused on highlighting the pivotal role of trees in supporting ecological balance, improving air quality, and reducing the impacts of climate change, in addition to their importance in enhancing the aesthetic appearance of the university environment, while emphasizing the necessity of preserving trees and avoiding any damage to them. This campaign aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 15 (Life on Land) through protecting ecosystems and conserving vegetation cover, Goal 13 (Climate Action) by raising awareness of the role of trees in mitigating climate change, and Goal 4 (Quality Education) through spreading environmental awareness and reinforcing positive environmental behaviors among students. The campaign witnessed noticeable interaction from students and contributed to strengthening a sense of environmental responsibility and encouraging initiatives that support sustainability and the conservation of natural resources within the university community. Al-Mustaqbal University is the first university in Iraq.
