In the context of highlighting current economic and financial issues, the program “Dinar,” broadcast on the Iraqi News Channel, hosted Dr. Abbas Fadel Rassan, a faculty member in the Department of Financial and Banking Sciences, in his capacity as an expert in financial and banking affairs. This appearance came as part of an episode titled “Taxes, Customs Duties, and Economic Reform,” during which Dr. Abbas Fadel Rassan discussed the decision to impose customs tariffs in Iraq, reviewing the main challenges facing their implementation and their role in supporting the general budget and maximizing non-oil revenues. The episode also addressed several important themes, including: The importance of tax reform in achieving social justice. The role of customs duties in protecting local products and stimulating the national economy. The relationship between fiscal policy and comprehensive economic reform programs. Administrative and legislative obstacles that limit the efficiency and effectiveness of the financial system. Practical proposals to develop financial and banking performance in line with the requirements of sustainable development. During his intervention, Dr. Abbas emphasized the necessity of adopting clearly defined economic policies, strengthening the principles of transparency, activating the role of oversight institutions, and supporting academic competencies and national expertise in shaping future economic policies.
