At the biological level, water acts as a cellular solvent that helps transport and utilize essential substances such as oxygen and nutrients. Water-based solutions, such as blood, facilitate the transport of molecules to the sites where they are needed—for example, enabling the transport of oxygen for respiration and helping drugs reach their targets within the body. Water also plays an important structural role in biology, as it fills cells and helps maintain their shape and structure. Within many cells—including those that make up the human body—water creates internal pressure that counteracts external forces, much like air inside a balloon. Water allows everything inside cells to attain the correct shape at the molecular level, and molecular shape is crucial for biochemical processes. This is considered one of the most important roles of water. God Almighty says in Surah Al-Anbiya: “And We made from water every living thing,” meaning that no living thing exists without water. Astronomers have reached the same conclusion; when searching for life beyond our solar system, they first look for water, following the rule: “Where there is water, there may be life.” • What is the chemical secret of water that makes life without it impossible? No other molecule rivals water in its unique chemical properties that support life. It not only can dissolve almost everything, but it is also one of the few substances that exists in solid, liquid, and gaseous states within the range of temperatures found on Earth.
