As part of efforts to promote a culture of safety and social responsibility within the university campus, the laboratories of the Medical Laboratory Techniques Department hosted a training and awareness workshop today in collaboration with the Red Cross, aimed at developing students’ first aid skills and enhancing their preparedness to handle emergency situations with competence and professionalism. This workshop was organized ضمن a series of scientific and awareness activities through which the department seeks to integrate academic knowledge with practical application, preparing students who possess both theoretical understanding and hands-on field skills. The workshop featured a comprehensive program that included introductory theoretical lectures covering the fundamental concepts of first aid and emphasizing its vital role in saving lives and minimizing complications before the arrival of specialized medical personnel. The program also included intensive practical training sessions focusing on how to manage cases such as fainting, different types of bleeding, burns, fractures, choking, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), following internationally recognized procedures. Participants were given the opportunity to apply what they learned using dedicated training equipment under the direct supervision of specialized trainers, which helped reinforce knowledge and build confidence in responding quickly and safely to emergencies. The workshop witnessed distinguished attendance and strong engagement from students, who showed great interest in the presented material and actively participated by asking questions that enriched the scientific discussion. The trainers emphasized the importance of spreading first aid awareness across all segments of society, highlighting that the first few minutes after an incident are often decisive in determining the patient’s outcome. At the conclusion of the event, the department administration expressed its appreciation for the efforts of the Red Cross team, praising this constructive collaboration as a reflection of community partnership and a reinforcement of the department’s commitment to developing students’ scientific competencies alongside humanitarian values. This initiative underscores that preparing competent medical professionals goes beyond academic excellence alone; it also requires instilling humanitarian principles, a spirit of initiative, and readiness to serve the community under all circumstances.
