Under the patronage of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, and under the direct supervision of the Dean of the College of Science, Assistant Professor Dr. Furat Hamza Al-Sultani, and with the follow-up and supervision of the Presidency of the Department of Intelligent Medical Systems, a scientific workshop entitled:
“Biological Resistance to Diseases and Its Role in Reducing the Use of Chemical Pesticides”
was held in the presence of a number of faculty members and students of the College.
The workshop aimed to shed light on the concept of biological resistance as one of the modern and environmentally friendly approaches to combating disease-causing agents. This is achieved through the use of beneficial microorganisms or bio-extracts to limit the spread of diseases, instead of excessive reliance on chemical pesticides.
The workshop also discussed the mechanisms of action of biological control agents and their key applications in both agricultural and medical fields, in addition to addressing the negative impacts of chemical pesticides on public health and the environment.
Furthermore, the workshop included a scientific presentation supported by practical examples and recent studies, along with an open discussion session for students, contributing to enhancing scientific understanding and promoting a culture of environmental sustainability.
At the conclusion of the workshop, participants emphasized the importance of adopting modern biotechnological techniques to address health and environmental challenges, as well as supporting scientific research that helps reduce risks resulting from the random and excessive use of chemical pesticides.
This activity is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the United Nations, particularly Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being), Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and Goal 15 (Life on Land), reflecting the University’s commitment to supporting sustainable scientific solutions to protect both people and the environment.
