Under the patronage of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, and the Dean of the College of Science, and under the direct supervision of the Head of the Forensic Evidence Department, Assistant Professor Dr. Sami Abdul Hussein Habbana, the Forensic Evidence Department at the College of Science organized a scientific workshop entitled “Legitimate Self-Defense and the Role of Forensic Evidence” on Sunday, 15/2/2026, in the Humanities Building Hall, with distinguished attendance from department students.
The workshop was part of the College of Science’s plan to strengthen the legal and practical knowledge of forensic evidence students. The College prepared the scientific framework of the workshop, organized its main themes in alignment with the academic curriculum, and provided the necessary facilities and presentation tools to ensure effective delivery. The department also coordinated administrative arrangements to facilitate active student participation.
The workshop was delivered by Assistant Lecturer Raed Jawad Kazem, who discussed the legal concept of legitimate self-defense, its conditions and limitations under criminal law, and explained how forensic evidence is utilized to determine whether the elements of self-defense are met. He also presented practical case examples illustrating the forensic expert’s role in analyzing crime scenes and interpreting physical evidence to support judicial decisions.
Assistant Professor Dr. Sami Abdul Hussein Habbana emphasized the importance of integrating legal understanding with technical forensic skills, highlighting that comprehensive knowledge of legal provisions related to self-defense enhances the accuracy and credibility of forensic reports.
The workshop witnessed wide participation, with dozens of students attending and actively engaging in discussions and questions regarding practical scenarios and the distinction between legitimate self-defense and unlawful aggression. This strong engagement reflects students’ commitment to developing both their legal insight and professional forensic competencies.
The College of Science at Al-Mustaqbal University continues to organize such scientific activities to prepare qualified professionals equipped with integrated legal and scientific expertise in the field of forensic evidence.
