As part of the practical training requirements for the Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing course, the College of Nursing at Al-Mustaqbal University organized a scientific visit on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, for fourth-year students specializing in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing to Al-Rashad Teaching Hospital in Baghdad, under the supervision of faculty members.
Al-Rashad Teaching Hospital is considered one of the leading specialized institutions in the field of psychiatry in Iraq. It receives a wide range of cases, including schizophrenia, mood disorders such as depression and bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, substance use disorders, and acute psychiatric conditions requiring inpatient admission and intensive therapeutic follow-up.
The hospital includes dedicated wards for male and female patients, specialized acute care units, and outpatient consultation clinics. It also provides comprehensive treatment programs that include pharmacological therapy, psychotherapy, and rehabilitation services delivered by a multidisciplinary team.
During the visit, students were introduced to patient admission procedures and initial psychiatric assessment processes, the development and implementation of comprehensive treatment plans, the nursing role in symptom monitoring and psychiatric medication management, therapeutic communication skills and professional relationship building, as well as occupational safety procedures and regulations within psychiatric institutions.
The students demonstrated a high level of commitment, discipline, and respect for patient confidentiality, reflecting the college’s dedication to preparing qualified nursing professionals capable of delivering specialized mental health care in accordance with approved professional standards.
