Dr. Aseel Safi delivered a scientific workshop entitled “Chemical Safety and Security in the Laboratories of the Department of Chemical Engineering” to students of the Department of Chemical Engineering and Petroleum Industries, as part of the department’s scientific activities aimed at promoting a culture of safety within the university environment. The workshop covered several key themes, focusing on the fundamentals of chemical safety and security in laboratories, safe handling of chemicals, proper storage and transportation methods, laboratory waste management, as well as emergency planning and response procedures. Dr. Aseel Safi emphasized the importance of adhering to approved guidelines and instructions, stressing that safety is a collective responsibility that contributes to protecting individuals and property and ensuring the efficient continuity of laboratory work. The organization of this workshop aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the United Nations, particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education), Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and Goal 13 (Health and Safety), as part of the department’s efforts to prepare qualified engineering graduates who possess adequate knowledge and awareness of occupational safety standards, thereby enhancing the quality of education and supporting labor market requirements.
