As part of the academic guidance plan, the Department of Chemical Engineering and Petroleum Industries organized a scientific workshop entitled “The Effect of Plastic on Food”, delivered by Lecturer Assistant Zainab Hassan Ali. The workshop addressed the impact of plastic packaging on food safety, with a focus on the interaction between plastic materials and hot foods and the potential migration of certain chemical compounds into food at elevated temperatures. It also clarified the factors affecting the phenomenon of chemical migration and emphasized the importance of selecting safe plastic types and avoiding heating food in containers not intended for that purpose. The workshop aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and Sustainable Development Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), as adopted by the United Nations, by promoting awareness of the safe and sustainable use of plastic materials.
