A practical lecture for second-year students in the Department of Prosthetics and Orthotics Engineering was held on Sunday, 22/2/2026, delivered by Engineer **Aya Talib Hassan**, as part of the Orthoses course. The lecture provided a detailed explanation of the **Ankle Foot Orthosis (AFO)**, including its definition, clinical importance in supporting the ankle and foot, its role in improving gait pattern, correcting deformities, and reducing functional complications in patients. Engineer Aya also reviewed the different types of AFO, including: * Solid AFO * Posterior Leaf Spring AFO * Hinged AFO * Dynamic AFO She clarified the functional differences between each type and the clinical indications for their use. The lecture further covered the fabrication process of the orthosis, starting from patient assessment and casting, followed by material thermoforming, and ending with finishing and final adjustments, in preparation for the practical application scheduled for next week in the laboratory. The session witnessed active student participation through questions and scientific discussions, enhancing their practical understanding and preparing them for future clinical application.
