As part of the graduation project discussions in the Department of Computer Engineering Technologies – College of Engineering and Engineering Technologies at Al-Mustaqbal University, fourth-year students presented their graduation project entitled:
“IoT-Based Smart Arm Rehabilitation and Monitoring System Using Arduino.”
The project aims to design and implement a smart arm rehabilitation system based on Internet of Things (IoT) technologies using the Arduino platform. The system focuses on developing a device capable of assisting patients suffering from upper limb injuries or weakness through monitored therapeutic exercises, with the ability to track performance and transmit data in real time to specialists via the Internet.
The research included a detailed explanation of the system’s operational mechanism, starting from electronic circuit design and selecting appropriate sensors to measure motion angles and muscle activity, followed by microcontroller programming, and concluding with the development of a cloud-based monitoring platform for data visualization and analysis. The students also demonstrated how the device is connected to an application or web interface, enabling physicians to remotely monitor the patient’s health progress. This contributes to improving the efficiency of physiotherapy programs and reducing the need for frequent visits to rehabilitation centers.
The project was discussed under the supervision and attendance of:
Professor Dr. Amin Al-Jubouri
Lecturer Waleed Ali
Lecturer Hamza Waleed
The examination committee commended the practical aspects of the project and its significance in supporting the healthcare sector through the integration of modern technologies. Technical challenges faced by the students—such as measurement accuracy, connection stability, and data security—were also discussed, along with future development proposals, including expanding the system to cover other limbs or integrating artificial intelligence techniques for more advanced data analysis.
This project represents a promising step toward integrating smart systems into medical rehabilitation, offering cost-effective and efficient solutions that align with technological advancements in healthcare.
