The Al-Mustaqbal University / Department of Radiological Techniques organized an advanced practical workshop entitled “Performing Gastrointestinal Radiological Examinations Using Contrast Media (Barium Studies),” held in the radiology and imaging laboratories of the department.
The workshop was conducted by Assistant Lecturer Ahmed Salman Jassim and Teaching Assistant Marwa Atta Allah Kazem, with the participation of a group of students interested in applying practical skills in the field of medical radiology.
The workshop focused on hands-on training for performing gastrointestinal radiological examinations using contrast media, including:
Preparatory steps for the examination, including setting up the necessary equipment, tools, and materials.
Operating the X-ray device and adjusting settings to obtain high-quality, precise images.
Proper use of contrast media to enhance image clarity and accurately visualize anatomical structures.
Applying radiation safety measures for both patients and medical staff during examinations.
Linking theoretical knowledge learned in lectures with practical application in the laboratory, including workflow explanation and troubleshooting potential issues during the examination.
The activity also emphasized developing critical thinking skills, proper decision-making during procedures, and building students’ confidence in handling complex equipment and devices to ensure quality performance and accurate laboratory results.
This workshop is part of the department’s continuous efforts to strengthen the practical component of radiological education, preparing students for the workforce through advanced field experience that provides reliable scientific and practical expertise in medical radiology.
