Specialist Dr. Lamis Abdulrahim Nabat organized a distinguished awareness activity on campus targeting students from various academic levels, aiming to shed light on obesity as one of the most significant health challenges of the modern era and its negative impact on both individual and community health. The activity included a comprehensive scientific lecture in which she addressed the medical concept of obesity and the methods used to measure it, such as Body Mass Index (BMI). She also explained the direct and indirect causes of weight gain, including physical inactivity, unhealthy dietary habits, psychological stress, and genetic factors. Furthermore, she highlighted the link between obesity and several chronic diseases, such as cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, type 2 diabetes, lipid disorders, as well as its effects on joint health, the respiratory system, and mental well-being. During the session, she emphasized the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle that begins with individual awareness, through organizing daily meals, reducing the consumption of sugars and saturated fats, relying on vegetables, fruits, and fiber-rich foods, in addition to engaging in regular physical activity—even for just 30 minutes per day. She also stressed the necessity of periodic medical check-ups to monitor body weight, fat levels, and blood sugar in order to prevent complications before they worsen. The activity witnessed positive interaction from students through questions and inquiries regarding healthy weight-loss methods, popular diets, and the safety of dietary supplements. The session concluded with practical recommendations aimed at promoting health awareness within the university and encouraging students to become ambassadors of health awareness within their families and communities, contributing to building a healthier and more vibrant society.
