Assist. Lect. Bushra Majid Hamid With the increasing demand for energy and the integration of renewable energy sources, traditional power grids are facing significant challenges in maintaining voltage and frequency stability. Here, the concept of the Smart Grid has emerged as an advanced solution based on digital sensing systems, modern communications, and automated control. Smart grids contribute to enhancing the stability of power systems through real-time monitoring, rapid fault response, load management during peak periods, as well as supporting the integration of renewable energy and energy storage systems. These features reduce the likelihood of outages and increase the reliability and efficiency of the grid. Despite challenges related to cost and cybersecurity, the transition toward smart grids has become a strategic necessity to ensure a more stable, resilient, and sustainable electrical system.
