AL-Mustaqbal university organized an online workshop entitled **“Food Security and Proper Nutrition”** in support of the second Sustainable Development Goal.
As part of its annual scientific and awareness plan, the Accounting Department held an expanded online workshop titled “Food Security and Proper Nutrition,” contributing to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly **Goal 2: Zero Hunger**, which focuses on ending hunger, strengthening food security, and improving nutrition.
The workshop was delivered by Dr. Ali Mohammed Hussein Al-Fartousi, who presented a comprehensive scientific overview addressing the core concepts of food security and its four key dimensions: food availability, access to food, proper utilization, and stability over time. He also discussed the major challenges facing food security at both local and global levels, including climate change, market fluctuations, population growth, and economic crises.
The speaker emphasized the importance of adopting sustainable food policies based on sound planning and efficient resource management, highlighting the pivotal role of academic institutions in raising food awareness and promoting healthy nutrition, particularly among youth and university students. He further underscored the relationship between food security and household economic stability, explaining how prudent financial planning can improve dietary consumption patterns and reduce waste.
The workshop also included practical discussions on designing awareness programs within educational institutions and linking management and accounting concepts to sustainability issues by measuring resource allocation efficiency and supporting community initiatives related to food security.
The event witnessed broad participation from faculty members and students, along with active engagement through discussions and questions that reflected a high level of awareness regarding the importance of the topic, especially under current economic conditions. At the conclusion of the workshop, participants recommended the continued organization of such scientific activities to enhance social responsibility and reinforce sustainable development concepts within the university environment.
This workshop forms part of a series of scientific programs implemented by the department in support of the college’s vision to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and to translate the university’s role from a purely academic framework into meaningful societal impact.
