In celebration of World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development, the Department of Prosthetics and Orthotics Engineering organized a scientific awareness activity on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, highlighting the vital role engineers play in supporting sustainable development and applying engineering knowledge to serve humanity and society.
The activity was conducted by Engineer Aya Talib Hassan, with the participation of Technician Mohammed Habib Hussein and Assistant Lecturer Hala Muhannad Ismail Haqi. The event focused on the importance of engineering in providing innovative solutions to modern challenges and its role in developing medical and engineering technologies that contribute to improving quality of life, particularly in the field of prosthetics and orthotics.
The activity also included an awareness presentation about engineers’ contributions to achieving sustainable development goals, the importance of innovation in engineering fields, and the humanitarian role of engineers in supporting different groups in society—especially individuals with limb loss—through the design and development of prosthetic limbs and assistive orthotic devices.
This activity comes as part of the department’s ongoing efforts to organize scientific and cultural events that raise awareness about the role of engineering in serving society and encourage students to innovate and contribute to building a more sustainable future.
