Within the framework of Al-Mustaqbal University's vision to empower students and develop their field skills in alignment with the requirements of the medical labor market, the Department of Medical Physics at the College of Science organized an extensive scientific and training field visit for its students to Al-Hilla Teaching Hospital on Monday, March 8, 2026. This initiative was conducted under the direct supervision of the academic staff members, Asst. Lect. Ali Jafar Obaid and Asst. Lect. Hamza Abbas Jawad, aimed at bridging the gap between theoretical curricula and modern technological applications in hospitals.
The visit featured an intensive training program that included field tours in specialized departments, where light was shed on advanced medical devices closely related to medical physics. The training focused in detail on three core technical pillars:
First, the Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL) unit, where students learned about the physics of shock waves and the mechanisms of controlling energy focus to fragment stones non-invasively.
This was followed by a visit to the ophthalmology department to train on Eye Laser Devices, understanding the characteristics of laser beams used in treating visual defects, while emphasizing the necessary radiation protection standards for both the patient and the operator.
The program also covered Audiology and Speech Therapy devices, explaining the acoustic techniques used to examine the efficiency of the middle and inner ear, as well as speech and hearing analysis programs.
For their part, the supervisors of the activity, Mr. Ali Jafar and Mr. Hamza Abbas, emphasized that this scientific trip provides students with the confidence to engage with a real medical environment and develops their ability to understand the precise calibration of devices that save patients' lives. The visit concluded with a note of appreciation to the administration of Al-Hilla Teaching Hospital and its engineering and medical staff for their high level of cooperation in opening training horizons for the future generation of medical physicists, contributing to the elevation of healthcare quality in Babylon Governorate.
