Within the framework of the university’s orientation toward supporting sustainability initiatives and enhancing the role of modern technologies in addressing societal challenges, the Department of Computer Technologies Engineering organized a scientific activity titled “Reducing Food Waste Using Artificial Intelligence Techniques and Demand Forecasting.” The activity presented the idea of a research project aimed at employing artificial intelligence techniques to analyze food consumption data and predict the required quantities of food with greater accuracy. This approach contributes to reducing surplus food and limiting the phenomenon of food waste. Participants also reviewed mechanisms for using demand forecasting models to assist food institutions, kitchens, and restaurants in planning food quantities in advance, achieving more efficient management of food resources and promoting sustainability concepts. The organizers of the activity emphasized that adopting intelligent solutions based on artificial intelligence technologies represents an important step toward building more efficient and sustainable food systems, in addition to raising community awareness about the importance of reducing food waste, especially during the holy month of Ramadan. This activity comes within the framework of the university’s efforts to encourage students and researchers to adopt innovative scientific projects that contribute to serving the community and achieving sustainable development goals.
