Under the patronage of the President of the University of Babylon, Prof. Dr. Amin Ajeel Al-Yasiri, and under the supervision of the Assistant President for Scientific Affairs, Prof. Dr. Mohammed Mansour Al-Khafaji, the DNA Research Center at the University of Babylon, headed by Prof. Dr. Lubna Abdul-Adheem Al-Bayati, hosted a scientific delegation from the College of Health and Medical Technologies – Al-Mustaqbal University, on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. This visit comes within the framework of strengthening academic and research cooperation between Iraqi universities and exchanging scientific expertise, which contributes to the development of scientific research and the advancement of the academic level in vital scientific fields. The visiting delegation included a number of faculty members and third-year students from the College of Health and Medical Technologies, accompanied by: • Assist. Prof. Dr. Amir Muzhir Hadi • Lecturer Dr. Ali Turki Hassan • Lecturer Dr. Haider Halim Saeed They were warmly received by the Director of the DNA Research Center and the center’s staff. During the visit, a specialized scientific lecture entitled: The Genomics and Genetic Diseases was delivered by Biotechnologist Hussein Fadhil Ibrahim. The lecture addressed several important topics, including: • An explanation of the fundamentals of genetics, including the concept of genes and DNA and their role in the transmission of hereditary traits across generations. • Discussion of common genetic diseases, their genetic causes, and how mutations may lead to the development of these disorders. • Highlighting one of the rare genetic diseases known as Butterfly Children Disease (Epidermolysis Bullosa), a rare hereditary disorder that causes extreme skin fragility, where the skin becomes easily blistered or damaged even with slight friction. In addition, Assistant Biologist Sajjad Haider Jasim delivered a lecture on medical microbiology, reviewing its different types, clinical importance, methods of growth and isolation, and ways of prevention. He also emphasized the importance of biosafety principles and accurate laboratory practices. Furthermore, Assistant Biologist Shatha Ruwaid Shadhar, a researcher at the DNA Research Center, presented a detailed explanation about the role of the PCR device in DNA amplification. She explained the mechanism of the device and its applications in medical diagnosis and scientific research, as well as its use in analyzing bacterial and viral genomes. The visit concluded with a practical tour inside the main laboratory of the center, where the visiting delegation observed the modern laboratory equipment and advanced techniques used in molecular analyses and genetic research. Towards Sustainable Scientific Cooperation This visit represents an important step in strengthening scientific collaboration between Iraqi universities and provides students with the opportunity to learn about the latest laboratory technologies, which supports the scientific journey and contributes to serving the community.
