On Tuesday, 10 March 2036, the biology Department organised a specialised workshop entitled ‘Standard Techniques for Preparing Nutrient Agar,’ presented by lecturer M.M. Zainab Nazim Aziz to third-year students in the department. The workshop aimed to equip students with the basic skills necessary for preparing agricultural environments. It included a theoretical aspect on the components of the nutrient medium and its importance in the growth of plant and microbial cultures, followed by a practical application aspect that included: Precise calculations: how to determine the weights and proportions required to prepare the medium. Dissolution and sterilisation process: a detailed explanation of how to use an autoclave to ensure a contaminant-free working environment. Pouring and solidification techniques: training students to pour into Petri dishes in ways that prevent air contamination. Lecturer M.M. Zainab Nazim Aziz emphasised that mastering the preparation of culture media is the ‘cornerstone’ of plant physiology experiments and biological research, noting that this workshop aims to bridge the gap between theoretical information and laboratory practice, preparing students to become competent researchers in the future. The students showed great enthusiasm through direct application, which contributed to enhancing their ability to deal with advanced laboratory requirements.
