As part of its efforts to promote women’s roles in science and technology, the Department of Chemical Engineering and Petroleum Industries organized a specialized awareness workshop on “Women’s Empowerment in Academic and Professional Settings,” The workshop was led by Assistant Professor Zainab Hassan Ali and Assistant Professor Abrar Falah Naji, in a move aimed at highlighting female students’ leadership capabilities and boosting their self-confidence to face the challenges of the engineering job market. The workshop addressed a comprehensive concept of women’s empowerment that extends beyond academic support to include effective communication skills and the development of leadership qualities capable of decision-making and active participation in community development. During the session, the speakers emphasized that empowering female engineering students is a cornerstone for achieving Sustainable Development Goal 5 (gender equality), as the department seeks through these initiatives to bridge the gender gap and provide an educational environment that ensures equal opportunities and genuine representation for women in the oil and industrial sectors. The workshop concluded by emphasizing that supporting women in engineering fields is a long-term investment that serves the country’s scientific and economic advancement.
