Water quality is considered one of the fundamental factors that influence the growth of microorganisms such as bacteria and algae in aquatic environments. Water quality refers to the physical, chemical, and biological characteristics of water, including temperature, dissolved oxygen levels, the presence of nutrients, and the degree of pollution. These factors directly affect the growth and reproduction of microscopic organisms in water. First, nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus play an important role in the growth of bacteria and algae. When these nutrients increase in water due to agricultural pollution or sewage discharge, algal growth rises significantly, a phenomenon known as eutrophication. This excessive growth of algae can disturb the balance of the aquatic ecosystem. Second, temperature affects the activity of bacteria and algae. Higher temperatures generally increase their growth and reproduction rates. Therefore, microbial activity is often higher in warm water compared to cold water. Third, dissolved oxygen in water is an important factor in determining the growth of microorganisms. Some types of bacteria require oxygen to carry out their biological processes, while others can live in low-oxygen conditions. When algae grow excessively, they may reduce the amount of oxygen in the water, which negatively affects other aquatic organisms such as fish. Fourth, pollutants such as chemicals and heavy metals can influence the growth of bacteria and algae. Some pollutants may stimulate the growth of certain bacterial species, while others may be toxic to various aquatic organisms. In conclusion, there is a close relationship between water quality and the growth of bacteria and algae, as the different characteristics of water directly influence the activity and reproduction of these organisms. Therefore, maintaining water quality and reducing pollution are essential for preserving ecological balance in aquatic systems and protecting the living organisms that inhabit them.
