In an embodiment of its active role in shaping higher education policies in Iraq, Professor Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University and member of the Private Higher Education Council, participated in the 6th session of the council. The meeting was hosted by Al-Zahraa University (PBUH) in the holy city of Karbala on Wednesday, March 4, 2026.
The session was chaired by Professor Dr. Haider Abid Dhahad, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Higher Education for Scientific Research Affairs, in the presence of a group of Directors General, senior ministry officials, and presidents of private universities and colleges.
The session witnessed extensive discussions on vital files aimed at elevating the academic landscape, most notably:
Developing Admission Mechanisms: Updating digital systems and administrative procedures to ensure high fluidity in student registration.
Qualitative Expansion in Medical Colleges: Reviewing the regulations for establishing new medical colleges to ensure a competitive educational environment that meets international standards.
Financial and Administrative Sustainability: Discussing tax laws and logistical requirements to ensure the stability and growth of educational institutions.
The attendees praised the tangible scientific achievements recently made by private universities, emphasizing that they have become a fundamental pillar of the Iraqi higher education system. The meeting also stressed the importance of direct coordination with the Ministry to transition toward "Fourth Generation Universities" that focus on innovation and productive scientific research.
For his part, Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi emphasized that these meetings represent a strategic platform to unify visions between private institutions and ministerial decision-making, ultimately benefiting Iraqi students and enhancing the efficiency of educational outcomes to meet global labor market requirements.
