the Department of Forensic Evidence at the College of Science, Al-Mustaqbal University, organized a workshop entitled “Criminal Intent,” delivered by Assistant Lecturer Raed Jawad Kadhim, on Monday, March 16, 2026, in Hall 208 at the Humanities Building, with distinguished attendance from the department’s students.
The workshop discussed the concept of criminal intent as a fundamental element of crime, outlining its types, including general and specific intent, and explaining the difference between direct and indirect intent, as well as methods of proving it in criminal cases. It also addressed the relationship between criminal intent and observable behavior, and the role of surrounding circumstances in determining criminal responsibility.
Furthermore, the workshop emphasized the importance of criminal intent in the legal classification of crimes and its impact on determining the type of offense and the corresponding penalty. It also highlighted the role of forensic evidence in revealing the offender’s intent through the analysis of facts and available evidence.
The workshop witnessed active engagement from students through discussions and questions, creating a dynamic academic atmosphere and deepening their understanding of this important legal concept.
