Embodying the vision of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Professor Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi, and within the framework of activating the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), the Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Engineering Technologies, in cooperation with the University’s Women’s Affairs Division, organized a specialized awareness activity for first-stage students in the Department of Computer Engineering Technologies on Tuesday, March 17, 2026. The event, supervised by Lecturer Saima Mohammed Jawad and Lecturer Raya Abdul Wahab, featured the launch of an educational brochure titled "Cyber-Extortion: Concept, Mechanisms, and Prevention Strategies." This publication aims to consolidate digital culture within the university community and deconstruct the complexities of cyber-extortion by explaining the psychological and technical tactics used to entrap victims in cyberspace. The activity focused on the "Protection and Prevention" pillar by highlighting essential digital security protocols. These include strictly maintaining the privacy of personal data and images, refraining from sharing sensitive information with untrusted parties, and adhering to technical requirements for personal cybersecurity—such as using complex passwords, updating them periodically, and optimizing privacy settings on social media platforms to ensure a fortified and secure digital environment for all users. Furthermore, the organizers emphasized the necessity of maintaining "Information Vigilance" by avoiding interaction with suspicious links or anonymous accounts. They also stressed the institutional and legal path of immediately reporting any extortion attempts to the competent authorities. The event concluded by reaffirming that proactive awareness is the cornerstone of protecting individuals and society, aligning with Al-Mustaqbal University’s mission to build a conscious generation equipped with the skills for safe and responsible engagement with modern technology.
