The digital economy has become a defining characteristic of modern global development, driven by rapid technological innovation, digital platforms, and data-driven business models that have transformed traditional economic structures. Within this evolving landscape, women play an increasingly important role in contributing to digital economic growth through their participation in technology sectors, digital entrepreneurship, remote work opportunities, and online business activities. Empowering women in the digital economy is essential for achieving inclusive economic development, as it expands workforce participation, promotes financial independence, and reduces gender-based economic disparities. Women’s engagement in the digital economy depends on access to digital literacy skills, including basic computer and internet usage as well as advanced competencies such as programming, data analysis, digital marketing, and e-commerce management. Online platforms have created new opportunities for women to establish small businesses, participate in freelance work, and access global markets without geographical limitations. Despite these opportunities, challenges remain, including the digital gender gap, limited access to technology in certain regions, and socio-cultural barriers that may restrict women’s participation in technological fields. Addressing these challenges requires targeted policies that support digital education for girls, promote equal access to technology, and provide training programs that enhance women’s digital skills and entrepreneurial capabilities. Supporting women-led digital initiatives and innovation ecosystems is also crucial for strengthening their role in the digital economy. Ultimately, empowering women in the digital economy contributes to sustainable economic growth, social equity, and the development of inclusive knowledge-based societies.
