Under the patronage of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, and in pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Engineering Technologies (Department of Electrical Engineering Technologies), in cooperation with the University’s Women’s Affairs Division, organized an awareness and capacity-building workshop on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, under the supervision of Engineer Shams Saleem Abbas Al-Masardaf.
The workshop was entitled:
“Women’s Empowerment as a Strategic Approach to Achieving Sustainable Development.”
The workshop aimed to highlight the importance of women’s empowerment as a fundamental pillar for achieving sustainable development, in alignment with the United Nations’ global agenda in this field. It addressed several key themes, including the concept and dimensions of sustainable development, as well as the vital role of women in supporting economic growth, enhancing social stability, and preserving the environment.
Furthermore, the workshop discussed the major challenges facing women on their path toward empowerment and presented a range of proposals and recommendations designed to strengthen their active participation across various sectors of society.
This initiative is part of a series of activities organized by Al-Mustaqbal University to promote the status of women and underscore their significant contributions to building a sustainable future, in accordance with the University’s strategic vision of supporting scientific competencies and community empowerment.
The campaign also aligns with the implementation of the Third National Action Plan on Women, Peace, and Security (2025–2030), particularly with the “Protection” pillar, which focuses on enhancing women’s safety and security across different domains.
Moreover, this activity falls within the framework of the protection and prevention pillar and reflects the department’s efforts to support sustainable development and foster community engagement in technological fields—most notably Sustainable Development Goal 5 (Gender Equality), which emphasizes women’s empowerment and the strengthening of their role within the educational environment.
