Under the leadership of the University President, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, Al-Mustaqbal University celebrated World Water Day on March 22, 2026. The event saw extensive participation from various faculties and departments, including the Department of Optometry, alongside faculty members, students, and environmental experts. The celebration aimed to highlight the strategic importance of freshwater and the urgent need for sustainable management to ensure the well-being of future generations.
This year’s activities were held under a theme linking "Water and Gender Equality." The university emphasized the pivotal role that women and girls play in addressing water scarcity challenges, seeking to enhance their participation in making critical decisions regarding the management and protection of water resources.
The celebration included a series of distinguished activities, most notably the launch of major awareness campaigns for water conservation and the organization of an international conference on environment and water to discuss current climate challenges. Additionally, a pioneering community initiative based on "Hydroponics" was showcased, aiming to reduce water waste and protect natural resources in line with international environmental standards.
The event featured specialized workshops and seminars focused on empowering women in the water sector and demonstrating modern technologies in water distribution that contribute to sustainability. Participants stressed the necessity of taking immediate steps to mitigate the risks of water scarcity and the negative impacts of climate change, reaffirming that access to clean water is a fundamental right for all individuals.
In terms of community engagement, the event witnessed significant interaction from the student body and faculty, as well as active participation from the agricultural sector and local farmers. Digital campaigns were activated across social media platforms using the global hashtag (#WorldWaterDay) to encourage responsible daily behaviors in water consumption, reflecting the advanced social responsibility within the university community.
This celebration embodies Al-Mustaqbal University’s commitment to supporting national visions for water security and serves as a practical application of the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) and Goal 4 (Quality Education), by spreading knowledge and fostering a deep understanding of water issues to ensure a sustainable and inclusive future for all.
