The Forensic Evidence Department at the College of Science, Al-Mustaqbal University, Organizes a Workshop on DNA Extraction

The Forensic Evidence Department at the College of Science at Al-Mustaqbal University organized a workshop titled “DNA Extraction” on Wednesday, March 18, 2026. The workshop was held in the Humanities Building – first floor – Hall (03), with the participation of a number of students. This workshop aimed to introduce students to the fundamentals of DNA, explain its structure and function, and enhance their scientific understanding of its applications in medical and forensic fields. The workshop included a series of practical activities and hands-on experiments. Students were provided with a simplified explanation of DNA structure and carried out an experiment to extract DNA from strawberries or bananas using simple tools and materials, in addition to discussing its uses in medicine and forensics. The workshop was supervised by Assistant Lecturer Mays Adi Muhammad, who emphasized the importance of practical exercises in reinforcing scientific knowledge and developing students’ research skills. The workshop recorded notable engagement from students through their active participation in the experiment and by asking questions and sharing observations, reflecting their interest in developing scientific and practical skills. The Forensic Evidence Department confirmed its commitment to organizing such scientific workshops, which contribute to enhancing students’ skills and practical capabilities in line with scientific developments in medical and forensic fields. This workshop comes as part of Al-Mustaqbal University’s efforts to provide an integrated educational environment that supports applied learning and the development of scientific skills among students.
