Under the patronage of Al-Mustaqbal University President, Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Magdy, under the supervision of Dean of the College of Science, Assistant Professor Dr. Furat Hamza Al-Sultani, and with the oversight of Head of the Department of Intelligent Medical Systems, Professor Dr. Mahdi Abadi Mani, the Department of Smart Medical Systems at the College of Science organized today, March 26, 2026, an online workshop entitled "Applications of Artificial Intelligence in Water Conservation and Sustainability", presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Maitham Nabil Miqdad and Programmer Huda Khudair Hani, with the participation of faculty members and students from the College of Science. The workshop aimed to highlight the pivotal role of artificial intelligence technologies in sustainably managing water resources by enhancing water consumption efficiency across various sectors and providing innovative solutions to challenges related to water scarcity. It also focused on raising awareness about the importance of environmental sustainability and the role of modern technology in supporting the achievement of sustainable development goals. The workshop produced several important outcomes through active participant engagement, including: Developing a roadmap to understand the operation of smart irrigation systems and AI-based sensors and their practical applications. Facilitating knowledge exchange through open discussions between the presenters and participants on the potential use of these technologies in governmental institutions and households to reduce costs and protect water resources. During the workshop, Dr. Maitham Nabil Miqdad presented practical examples of using AI to monitor water consumption and analyze data to minimize waste, alongside smart tools that help institutions and communities make data-driven decisions to optimize water resource utilization. The interactive format of the workshop allowed participants to engage in questions and practical discussions, enhancing their knowledge and skills. The workshop concluded by emphasizing the importance of integrating modern technology into water policies and involving youth and students in applying smart solutions to achieve sustainability, thereby creating a positive impact on both society and the environment. Al-Mustaqbal University is the first one university in Iraq.
