Al-Mustaqbal University, under the presidency of Prof. Hassan Shakir Majdi, celebrated World Water Day on Tuesday, March 22, 2026, highlighting the importance of freshwater and the need for sustainable management, with this year’s focus on the link between water and gender equality.
The celebrations aimed to raise community awareness about the importance of water and the necessity of its preservation, while emphasizing the crucial role women and girls play in addressing water challenges, in line with the 2026 theme promoting their participation in decision-making related to water resource management.
University activities included awareness campaigns for water conservation, an international conference on environment and water, and a community initiative based on hydroponic farming to reduce water consumption and protect water resources, in alignment with Sustainable Development Goal 6: “Water for All.”
The events also focused on empowering women in the water sector through workshops and seminars highlighting their role in managing water resources, and applying modern technologies in water distribution to support sustainability goals and enhance the community’s capacity, particularly women and girls, to make effective decisions.
The celebrations witnessed wide participation from students and the local community through virtual university events and awareness campaigns on social media using the hashtag "#WorldWaterDay," encouraging individuals to take personal steps to conserve water in their daily lives.
The university affirmed that this year’s celebrations aim to deepen understanding of water issues, highlight the impacts of water scarcity, and stress the importance of taking immediate action to ensure a sustainable water future for all.
