Under the patronage of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Science, Assistant Professor Dr. Furat Hamza Al-Sultani, the Department of Medical Biotechnology at the College of Science – Al-Mustaqbal University organized a scientific workshop entitled: “Carbohydrates as a Source of Energy.” The workshop was delivered by Dr. Hussein Mahdi, who discussed the importance of carbohydrates as one of the primary sources of energy in the human body. He highlighted their vital role in supporting biological processes and enhancing both physical and mental performance. He also reviewed the types of carbohydrates, the differences between simple and complex carbohydrates, their effects on overall health, and their relationship with metabolism and energy production within cells. The workshop was attended by several faculty members, including Mr. Ahmed Jalal Naima, along with active participation from the department’s students, who engaged in discussions and asked insightful questions that enriched the session. At the end of the workshop, emphasis was placed on the importance of promoting nutritional and health awareness among students, given its essential role in improving lifestyle and preventing many diseases associated with poor nutrition.
