The Department of English Language and Literature organized a specialized scientific workshop entitled “Legal Responsibility and Ethics of Artificial Intelligence: Bridging the Gap Between Legislation and Technology”, presented by Asst. Lecturer Sakina Hussein Abbas and Fatima Waheed Flayfil, as part of the department’s efforts to keep pace with technological advancements and enhance legal awareness of modern technologies.The workshop aimed to highlight the legal and ethical challenges associated with artificial intelligence, particularly issues related to determining liability for errors of intelligent systems, protecting human rights from algorithmic bias, and regulating emerging cybercrimes such as deepfakes and digital fraud.The workshop covered several key themes, including the legal personality of artificial intelligence, addressing legal responsibility and intellectual property rights of AI-generated outputs. It also discussed algorithmic justice and human rights, focusing on bias mitigation, the right to explanation, and data protection. Additionally, the workshop explored AI-related cybercrimes and ways to mitigate their legal and security risks.This workshop aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) and Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions). It aimed to equip participants with a deeper understanding of modern legislative challenges and enable them to propose legal frameworks that keep up with rapid technological development.
