The Forensic Evidence Department at the College of Science, Al-Mustaqbal University, organized an online scientific workshop on Thursday, March 26, 2026, entitled "Diatom Algae as a Bioindicator of Water Quality in the Al-Hillah River", with the participation of a number of students.
The workshop aimed to highlight the vital role of diatom algae in assessing water quality, as they are considered one of the most important biological indicators reflecting changes in aquatic ecosystems, particularly in the Al-Hillah River. It also sought to raise students’ environmental awareness regarding the importance of preserving water resources and reducing pollution.
The workshop covered several scientific topics, including the biological characteristics of diatoms, their application as bioindicators, and the key factors affecting water quality along with possible mitigation methods.
The session was delivered by Assistant Lecturer Mais Adi Mohammed, who emphasized the importance of employing bioindicators in environmental studies and the role of scientific research in protecting natural resources.
The workshop witnessed active engagement from students through questions and discussions, reflecting their interest in contemporary environmental issues.
The Forensic Evidence Department affirmed its commitment to organizing such online workshops that contribute to developing students’ skills and enhancing their environmental awareness in line with sustainable development goals.
