As part of a series of scientific activities aimed at empowering students, the Biomedical Engineering Department at Future University organized a specialized workshop entitled "Understanding Phobias and Modern Treatment Methods." The workshop, led by Mr. Maher Rahim, highlighted how engineering and advanced technologies can be integrated into psychological care. About the workshop: The workshop aimed to introduce students to the mechanisms of phobia development from a scientific perspective and to review evidence-based solutions. The presentation focused particularly on the transformative power of Exposure Therapy and how cyber technologies, such as Virtual Reality Therapy (VRET), can be employed as a leading engineering and technological tool to address fears in a safe, simulated environment. Methodology: The workshop employed an interactive presentation and systematic analysis approach, covering: • Comprehensive explanations of the psychological and physiological foundations of anxiety disorders. • Discussion of the practical steps and ethical considerations when using technology in psychotherapy. • A review of the importance of engineering models in designing highly realistic virtual reality environments for therapeutic purposes. The workshop witnessed significant student attendance and engagement, which enhanced their understanding of the intersection of engineering disciplines with medical and psychological sciences, thus increasing their readiness to develop technological solutions that serve the community. Objectives of the Scientific Activity: This activity contributes to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the university, including: • Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being): by highlighting innovative technologies that contribute to improving the mental health and well-being of individuals. • Goal 4 (Quality Education): by integrating modern technological aspects (such as VRET) into the educational process and developing students' abilities to understand contemporary medical challenges.
