The Department of biology at Al-Mustaqbal University organized a scientific workshop on Tuesday, 7/4/2026, titled “The Impact of International Policies on Iraq’s Water Availability.” The workshop was held in the Engineering Building under the supervision of Lecturer M.M. Doha Salah Sahib, with the presence of the Dean of the College, Associate Professor Dr. Furat Hamza Al-Sultani, the Head of the Department, Professor Dr. Ali Shalaan Maelaf, the Department Coordinator M.M. Jaafar Hamed Jaafar, and a number of faculty members from various departments.
The workshop aimed to enhance the scientific understanding of the participants regarding the importance of water as a vital and strategic resource for Iraq, explore the impact of international and regional policies on water availability, and highlight the risks arising from international projects and the division of transboundary waters.
The workshop included a detailed explanation of the measures necessary to ensure the sustainability of water resources, including the development of national plans, strengthening cooperation with local and international bodies, and implementing effective environmental policies, with an emphasis on raising awareness within the academic community about the importance of water conservation and addressing future challenges.
The workshop witnessed active participation from attendees through questions and scientific discussions, providing an opportunity to exchange experiences and clarify the best approaches for sustainable water resource management.
This event comes as part of the Department of biology efforts to enhance scientific and research awareness among students and faculty, develop analytical and research skills, align with sustainable development goals, and support the university’s mission in serving the community.
