As part of its ongoing volunteer activities and community initiatives, Future University's Biomedical Engineering Department organized an awareness campaign titled "Your Heart in Ramadan," under the direct supervision of Engineer Zahraa Saad Khazal, to provide health and guidance support to those fasting during the holy month.
About the Campaign:
The campaign aimed to promote health awareness regarding circulatory system health and how to maintain heart health while fasting. The initiative focused on utilizing biomedical engineering knowledge to explain how vital signs monitoring devices (such as blood pressure and heart rate monitors) work and the importance of regular monitoring to prevent health complications related to exertion or nutrition.
Methodology:
The campaign employed a direct, field-based approach, which included:
• Free vital signs checks and the distribution of informational brochures on healthy heart habits.
• Clarifying the relationship between medical technology and self-preservation by explaining how home monitoring devices accurately function.
• Providing scientific advice on maintaining the body's physiological balance during fasting and the role of moderate physical activity in enhancing heart health. The campaign witnessed significant participation, contributing to strengthening the role of biomedical engineers as active contributors to community service and health awareness, reflecting the department's humanitarian and scientific identity.
Objectives of the Volunteer Activity:
This activity contributes to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, including:
• Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being): by contributing to the early detection of blood pressure disorders and promoting heart health within the community.
• Goal 4 (Quality Education): by engaging students in field activities that develop their communication skills and connect academic learning with real-world human experiences.
• Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals): by fostering collaboration between the university and the community to achieve a safe and healthy environment for all.
