Engineer Hadeer Hussam Hasshim presented an article about the ancient Egyptians' skill in designing prosthetic limbs.

A new discovery made by researchers from a Swiss university in cooperation with the Egyptian Museum in Cairo has shown that the ancient Egyptians were among the first to excel in designing prosthetic limbs that were appropriate in size and comfortable to use. After examining a wooden prosthetic toe dating back about 3,000 years with the latest technologies, researchers from the University of Basel in Switzerland awarded the craftsman who manufactured this toe the highest rating in manufacturing skill.

The university stated in a statement that "the prosthetic toe dating back to the beginning of the first millennium BC demonstrates the skill of the craftsman, who was a complete expert in the composition of the human body." According to the researchers' data, the wooden toe was attached with a woven ribbon to the foot of the daughter of a priest. The research team, which included experts from the University of Zurich and the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, concluded that the owner of the prosthetic toe paid great attention to beauty, natural appearance, and comfort in use.

This woman was buried in one of the tombs of the nobles designated for the upper class close to the ruler. This tomb was found west of the city of Luxor in Upper Egypt, known as Thebes at that time.
