Heat transfer technology is considered as one of the serious challenges that face the development of technological industries.
Use of additions to liquids is a familiar process utilized to enhance heat transfer. As a matter of fact, increase of thermal conductivity of liquids is a main purpose for promoting the heat transfer of liquids.
Besides, the progress achieved recently in the field of “Materials Engineering” has led to the production of “Nanoparticles” that are utilized to improve heat transfer. It has also been used in cooling processes as well as other advanced applications.
Nanotechnology, indeed, has been part of the projects adopted by the Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Engineering Dept. within the trend of the college to achieve the SDGs of the UNDP.
Nanomaterials have been used to reinforce heat transfer and the hydrodynamic properties of fluids through the use of nanoparticles in a turbulent flow system on a zigzag surface inside a rectangular tube. The Nano liquid has been prepared inside the labs of Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Engineering Department under the supervision of the academics Mr. Louai Hashim, Ms. Hind Naji, and Dr. Athraa Hameed.
Assist. Prof. Dr. Azher M. Abed, Head of Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Engineering Department has pointed out that the strategic plan of the Dept. is to enrich workshops and laboratories with devices and substances so as to support scientific research and attract postgraduate students as well as researchers of different scientific majors.
Moreover, Dr. Azher added that most graduation projects shall be published in worldwide journals to become as an applied research that companies and industrial institutions could make use of them. Finally, he confirmed that the Department, under the guardianship of Prof. Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi, Dean of Al-Mustaqbal University College has established a laboratory for energy research including lots of systems and graduation projects in the field of solar and wind energy.
