The Department of Archaeology at Al‑Mustaqbal University organizes a seminar on the capitals of the Abbasid state to promote cultural awareness and sustainable development.

On January 25, 2025, the Department of Archaeology at the College of Arts and Humanities at Al‑Mustaqbal University organized a scientific seminar titled “Capitals of the Abbasid State: Their Civilizational and Cultural Dimensions,” presented by Mr. Zaid Awad Atiya, Lecturer in the Department of Archaeology.<br /><br />The seminar shed light on the capitals of the Abbasid state and their role in shaping the contours of Islamic civilization over the centuries. It also addressed the historical and cultural significance of these capitals and their impact on various fields such as science, art, architecture, and commerce.<br /><br />During his lecture, Mr. Zaid Awad Atiya explained that rekindling interest in these historical cities contributes to enhancing cultural identity and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals—especially Goal 11, which focuses on making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable, and Goal 4, which aims to ensure quality and inclusive education to foster cultural understanding and preserve heritage.<br /><br />He further emphasized that such seminars provide an opportunity to raise awareness among students and researchers about the importance of civilizational heritage as an integral part of national identity, in addition to their role in achieving sustainable development by leveraging cultural heritage to improve quality of life.<br /><br />The seminar received significant engagement from the audience, who praised the importance of the topic and called for intensified efforts to preserve Iraqi cultural heritage and protect it from deterioration.<br /><br />#AlMustaqbal University<br />#The_Premier_University_in_Iraq
