In the context of enhancing environmental sustainability efforts and improving natural resource management, the Sustainability Team at Future University, led by Team Leader (Eng. Sally Selan Hussein, Eng. Alaa Hussein Abdul Amir – Department of Building and Construction Engineering Techniques), along with a group of Future University students, conducted a field visit to a site in Babil Governorate (60th Street) to examine the waste from demolished buildings and find solutions to reduce the pollution resulting from these wastes. The aim is to decrease environmental pollution and carbon emissions, and to propose methods for reusing these materials after processing them for construction purposes.<br />The main objectives of the visit were to identify challenges and obstacles that may arise, and the team conducted interviews with several experts in the engineering field. They also distributed questionnaires to gather opinions on the idea of reusing rubble from demolished buildings and its potential practical implementation. All observations related to the site, including the impact of the waste on the residents, were documented. Some cases showed respiratory illnesses like bronchial allergies, as these wastes pose a significant danger, especially to children, due to harmful compounds present in the debris. Therefore, reusing these materials could significantly mitigate many of these issues and serve as a major energy investment.
