Future University plays a vital role in promoting community and environmental efforts by encouraging volunteer campaigns aimed at addressing environmental issues, such as reducing the use of single-use plastics. This initiative aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically:<br /><br />Goal 4: Quality Education<br />Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy<br />Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production<br />The university achieves this through awareness and education, encouraging participation in volunteer activities, research and innovation, collaboration with the local community, and implementing sustainable internal practices.<br /><br />The Sustainability Team at Future University, led by Asst. Lect. Maryam Mohammed Mousa and Asst. Lect. Sally Selan Hussein from the Department of Building and Construction Engineering Technologies, along with a group of students, conducted a field visit to Street 40 in Babil Province. The goal was to gather public opinions on the feasibility of achieving the campaign’s objectives, which include:<br /><br />Reducing plastic usage: The campaign aims to minimize the consumption of single-use plastics such as plastic bags, bottles, cups, and disposable utensils.<br />Environmental awareness: Spreading knowledge about the negative impact of plastic on the environment, particularly marine pollution and the threats plastic poses to wildlife and human health.<br />Encouraging sustainable alternatives: Promoting the use of eco-friendly substitutes such as reusable bags, glass or metal containers, and biodegradable materials.<br />Promoting recycling: Advocating for the importance of waste sorting and plastic recycling to enhance sustainability and reduce environmental impact.
