Under the supervision of the Head of the Department of Building and Construction Technologies Engineering, Dr. Mayada Wahid Falah, and in alignment with the eighth goal of sustainable development (Decent Work and Economic Growth), Lecturer M.M. Sally Silan Hussein organized an awareness campaign titled "Safety Skills at Construction Sites."

Safety at construction sites is a top priority to protect workers and minimize accidents and injuries. The success of any construction project depends on implementing safety standards and ensuring that all personnel on-site are fully aware of preventive measures.

Key Safety Skills at Construction Sites:
🔹 Hazard Identification

Ability to detect potential hazards such as falls, hazardous materials, and heavy equipment.
Risk assessment and development of mitigation plans.
🔹 Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Wearing helmets, gloves, safety goggles, and protective footwear to prevent injuries.
Ensuring that protective gear meets safety standards.
🔹 Safe Handling of Tools and Equipment

Training on proper use of heavy machinery such as cranes and excavators.
Conducting regular inspections to ensure equipment safety.
🔹 Safe Work at Heights

Proper use of scaffolding and ladders, ensuring they are securely positioned.
Wearing safety harnesses when working at significant heights.
🔹 First Aid Training

Learning how to respond to emergency injuries such as cuts, burns, and fainting incidents.
Ensuring the availability of first aid kits in easily accessible locations.
🔹 Compliance with Emergency Procedures

Familiarizing workers with emergency exits and evacuation plans in case of fires or accidents.
Training on the use of fire extinguishers and handling hazardous substances.
🔹 Effective Communication Among Work Teams

Ensuring all workers understand safety instructions and warning signs.
Using communication devices to coordinate operations among different teams.
Importance of Safety Skills at Construction Sites:
✅ Reducing accidents and injuries, ensuring worker safety.
✅ Improving productivity by maintaining a safe and organized work environment.
✅ Cutting costs related to workplace accidents, injuries, and downtime.
✅ Complying with local and international safety regulations.

Conclusion:
Possessing safety skills at construction sites is not optional—it is essential for maintaining a safe and well-organized work environment. Every worker and engineer on-site must be trained and committed to safety standards to avoid risks and ensure project success.

📍 Al-Mustaqbal University - The No.1 University in Iraq
