Engineer Safety at Worksites: Risks and Preventive Measures
Under the supervision of the Head of the Department of Building and Construction Technologies Engineering, Dr. Mayada Wahid Falah, and in alignment with the eighth goal of sustainable development (Decent Work and Economic Growth), Lecturer M.M. Raghda Ali Nasser organized an activity titled "Engineer Safety at Worksites: Risks and Preventive Measures."

Activity Objectives:
Raising awareness among engineers about the importance of workplace safety procedures.
Identifying common risks engineers face during project execution.
Discussing preventive strategies to minimize workplace accidents.
Activity Breakdown:
1️⃣ Introduction:

Presenting a short video or image slides showcasing safety hazards at construction sites.
Interactive question: What are the most significant risks you may encounter as an engineer on-site?
2️⃣ Risk Analysis:

Participants are divided into groups, each studying a specific type of risk, such as:
Falls from heights
Exposure to hazardous chemicals
Electrical hazards
Accidents involving heavy machinery
Each group identifies the causes of these risks and suggests ways to minimize them.
3️⃣ Safety Strategies (30 minutes):

Presenting information on Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and its significance.
Reviewing international safety standards and guidelines (e.g., OSHA, ISO).
Each group proposes preventive measures to mitigate the risks they analyzed.
4️⃣ Practical Exercise:

Role-playing: Groups receive scenarios of hypothetical worksite incidents and must propose quick and safe solutions to handle them.
Discussion of solutions and clarification of the correct procedures according to safety standards.
5️⃣ Evaluation & Conclusion:

Summarizing key points covered in the session.
Conducting a short quiz or survey on what participants learned.
Distributing a safety guideline booklet for engineers.
Expected Outcomes:
✅ Increased awareness of potential workplace hazards.
✅ Strengthened safety culture among engineers.
✅ Enhanced decision-making skills in emergency situations.

📍 Al-Mustaqbal University - The No.1 University in Iraq
