The following explains the most important criteria and conditions that are important to be present in any good and successful painting:
Colors
Planning in advance the colors that will be used in the painting is one of the important criteria for producing a successful painting, as it makes drawing faster and easier, and thus the focus remains on the main idea of the painting and its inspiration and the formation of a carefully studied color scheme in the event that a decision is made about what colors to use.
The focal point.
The focal point is the main area of interest in the painting, that is, the place where the viewer's eye will be directed, for example, what is the painting about? What is the main subject that you are referring to? In order for the artwork to become a successful artwork, you should avoid placing the focal point in the middle of the artwork, horizontally, vertically, or near the edges. The correct focal point is often the place with the highest contrast in the artwork or at the sharp edges of it.
Freshness
When you first start painting, you are overwhelmed by enthusiasm about the scene in your imagination and you want to put all your energy into what you want to paint. Things may not be complete during the painting as you imagine, but you will find some mistakes that you did not know how to fix, and thus your enthusiasm will be lost. Therefore, it is necessary to maintain the freshness of the artwork. If you feel tired or exhausted, rest a little and then return to continue; Because you may damage the painting due to your lazy and unimportant touches, and always try to maintain your focus and remember the reason for your inspiration to draw the painting and the thing that prompted you to draw it.
Skill and techniques
One of the most testable and comparable criteria is the technique used and the artist's skill, as when you see a painting, you may be able to determine the skill of its drawing and the techniques that were used in drawing it by comparing it with other paintings. Judging techniques and skills may be difficult, but with practice and repetition, you will be able to understand the paintings more and be able to know what is a good painting and what is a bad one.
Uniqueness
A good painting may reveal new topics or old topics that have been presented in a way that has not been done before, that is, when you look at the painting, ask yourself if it is different from other works that you have seen, and if you notice something different, you will decide whether this unique and distinctive thing distracts you from the painting or idea or enhances it.

The above article contributes to promoting sustainable development goals, especially the fourth goal, “Quality Education.”

Almustaqbal University, the number one university in Iraq.
